Chinese Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese medicine Acupuncture (TCMA) has been used to restore, promote and maintain good health for over 2500 years. According to the tradition our health is dependant on the bodies motivating energy (Qi) moving in a smooth and balanced way through channels under the skin.

The flow of Qi can be disturbed by many factors, physical, mental and emotional. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy the acupuncturist can stimulate the body’s natural healing response and help restore its natural balance.

Not merely a means to relieve pain, TCMA is used to teat a wide range of illness and concentrates on the patient as an individual. Recently recommended by National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) for chronic back pain (and available through the NHS) it enjoys increasingly widespread acceptance in the west as a very safe and effective complementary treatment.

What will happen at your first visit?

Through observation and discussion about your current symptoms, a full and careful history will be taken and your practitioner will take your pulse and examine your tongue. A treatment plan will then be made, based on diagnosis with TCM theory and treatment can begin.

The first treatment takes 1 to 1 ¼ hours and subsequent treatments last about 45min, the frequency of treatments depends on your individual condition, but once or twice a week is usual initially, with some change being found after 2 - 5 treatments. Your practitioner will advise on your individual case. As we often use points on the arms and legs, wearing loose clothing is advisable and more comfortable.
